East Granby Soccer Association
Hello to all Soccer Fans:
It is time to begin registration for the Spring 2010 season for both our Mini-Soccer Program on Saturday mornings as well as our Travel Teams.
The East Granby Soccer Association is no different than many other programs in that recently we have seen our share of challenging times financially. For our Mini-Soccer program on Saturday mornings, we feel that there is tremendous value in continuing our relationship with the Challenger Sports organization and having their coaches work with our kids. This is something that we’ve been doing for a few seasons now and we have received very favorable feedback from the parents and personally I’ve witnessed the fun the kids are having as they learn the game. Challenger Sports is, by far, our biggest expense for the Mini-Soccer program. We are a non-profit organization and in order to just break even on all of costs, we need about 105 kids to sign up. We’ve been averaging 70-80 kids.
Some of the changes we have decided to implement for the Mini-Soccer program:
· Over the past few seasons, in order to entice participation, we have offered “scholarships” for those that help with tasks such as Picture Day, Closing Day and Trophies. We will be discontinuing these “scholarships” and would ask that you volunteer for these roles as a way to get involved and help our organization. In our small town, we need your support.
· There will be an increase in the cost per child. If the total cost in broken down by the hour, it is still less than $10 per week for 90 minutes of soccer fun; far less than a baby sitter’s fee for that same timeframe.
Fundraising:
· We would really like to do more in the way of fundraising. I know some have been reluctant as you are not looking to take on another “job” so we’ve decided to have those that wish to, step up, take on an event of your own, run with it and in lieu of the “scholarship”, we’ll pay you 10% of what the fundraiser makes. Run an event that makes $2,000 and EGSA gets $1,800 and you keep $200 for your efforts. We raised about $1,300 on last year’s event at the Hooker Brewery. This can be done again or it could be an East Granby night at Bradley Bowl, anything you wish, just reach out to us with your idea!
We did talk to the surrounding towns regarding what they charge for their version of Mini-Soccer and found that we were much less expensive than any other town and many of them did not bring in the Challenger Coach experience.
For those of you signing up for Travel Soccer, the only change we have is a increase in cost. Again, we did discuss with the surrounding towns and found that our fees were not in line with what is being charged.
We look forward to an exciting Spring season of soccer, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Take care,
Jim Gothers
